Vegan Food Review: Donut Friend Fudgegazi

This weekend if you are looking for a satisfying  food adventure (and will be in the Southern California area)  head down to Highland Park and check out Donut Friend. 

Donut Friend is one of the MANY vegan restaurants Los Angeles has to offer. They specialize in donuts (duh)  and have a mouth watering and charmingly named selection. I have been there quite a few  times and very rarely deviate from my usual order; a Fudgegazi. Initially I  tried it because I asked one of the employees to recommend something super chocolatey.

 

A fudgegazi is a raised donut filled with chocolate cream, topped with chocolate glaze and chocolate chips. I believe it used to be topped with chocolate shavings but  last week when I went they put chocolate chips on it instead. (Also the photo of the Fudgegazi above is from the menu) Sometimes I ask the staff to replace the raised donut with a chocolate cake donut to make it even more chocolatey. Other times I have them replace the chocolate filling with Hazelnut Spread which tastes just like Nutella but it’s vegan. Yum!

Donut Friend also gives people the option to DIY as they call it, so you may concoct your own delicious combination. Many people choose to use this option to customize their own ice cream sandwich.

Aside from the endless delicious options Donut Friend also provides EXCELLENT customer service. Perhaps this is the reason why this place is almost always full. I recommend going between 11:00 am-12:00 pm it is the only time I have been there and not had to wait in line. Another cool thing about them is that on Friday and Saturdays they are open until 12:00 am.

Prices are pretty normal for a vegan restaurant. The average item ranges from 3-6 dollars.
