Last year I attended Pinup Girl Clothing‘s annual yard sale and left with armloads of fabulous vintage repro gear at deeply discounted prices. Prices started as low as $5.00 and nothing was priced over $60.00!!! As a vintage, vintage repro loving bargain hunter I was in HEAVEN. They had stacks of Marilyn swimsuits for only $15.00 a piece, tables everywhere stacked with boxes of shoes as far as the eye could see, and a wide selection of dresses and separates from their various house brands. They also had a few other vendors there…more on that later.
This year, the event will be held tomorrow from 10 am – 4:00 pm. The location is ATB Studios 157 W. Providenicia Ave. Burbank, CA 91502. Last year they had catering but this year they have food trucks instead. There will also be music and free parking (yay!). Lastly they will also feature a “special release” of their newest Pinup Couture handbags.
Here are a few tips to make the most of your shopping experience at the yard sale.
1. If you live in the valley go to the store in Burbank to try on a couple of styles of dresses or separates, (depending on the styles you will have your eye out for at the yard sale). The dressing rooms last year had very long snaking lines, so if you already know what size is best for you as far as Pinupgirl Clothing items are concerned you can skip the lines and go straight to the cash register!
From my experience Pinupgirl Clothing‘s sizing is pretty consistent but I think the size charts on the website are also a good option if you aren’t able to come to Burbank before the yard sale and want to get a good idea of the fit of different items. Personally, I didn’t try anything on, I went to the store before the sale, tried some things on (and couldn’t resist buying something) and it made my shopping speedier and headache free. Standing in line for dressing rooms really sucks.
2. Arrive early. Last year I arrived 20 minutes after the doors opened and many racks were already bare and the lines for the dressing rooms were endless. If you must however, arrive late don’t worry they do restock the floor.
3. Mind your manners (don’t push, shove, rip stuff out of people’s hands). It’s just good Karma.
